about Leila Garcia
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Radio-Television-Film production, I dove feet first into the world of film and television production. Over the years I've worked in pretty much all aspects of production - from research and development, to field and post producing and writing. I spent the last decade focused primarily on developing expert-level editing skills and have had the opportunity to work on numerous non-fiction television programs, as well as a couple of fiction film projects. I have a keen sense of story and understand what it takes to bring together all the elements - image and sound, music, graphics, and narration to create interesting, and engaging television programs.
work is important. fun is too.
I spend hours in a dark edit room getting the job done. Sometimes I'm there before sunrise and leave well after sunset. When you spend that much time on the job, enjoying what you do and working with a good team of people is crucial. Being professional will complete the task, but working in a fun and respectful environment makes the whole process so much easier. And once the show has aired, I make it a point to spend lots of time outside: hiking, cycling, running, pretending I can ski. Hard work and long hours are part of life in television, but maintaining a work/life balance is vital to keeping sane and staying healthy.
